For the fourth consecutive year The Friends of the San Luis Valley National Wildlife Refuges conducted a kids art contest in recognition of National Wildlife Refuge Week October13-19, 2003. The Feathered Friends art contest (formerly called the Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest) is for San Luis Valley students in
grades K-12. The subject of the artwork must be any native North American bird species. Nearly 60 pieces of artwork were submitted from schools throughout the San Luis Valley. All of the artwork was on display through November 2003 at the Alamosa Refuge Visitor’s Center. All contestants received a ribbon for participating and prizes were given for first, second and third place in each grade category. A special thank you to local artist Laura Murphy and Adams State College Biology student Robin Vaughn for judging the art contest.
