ALAMOSA - JoCarroll
Hann, passed away at the San Luis Care Center
in Alamosa, Colorado on Sunday Aug. 10, 2008 after a three year battle
with
cancer. She was cremated in an open air ceremony in Crestone, Colo. on
Wed.,
Aug. 13, 2008.
JoCarroll was born in Indianapolis, Ind. and she began studying her music
and
playing the harp at the age of 10 and went to a conservatory to practice
every day
after school. She continued her music while living in South America where
for 13 years
she played her concert harp in ensembles and orchestras. Performing in
plays in Ecuador
and Colombia deepened her understanding of the culture and language of
these countries.
She applied her experiences later teaching English to immigrants from
Latin America
living in the San Luis Valley.
Living in Australia was another adventure away from the USA. And several
years ago,
she signed up for a three year teaching position in Japan. JoCarroll had
no trouble
making friends wherever she went and remained in touch with many people
she met
during her extensive travels. She finally settled down in the San Luis
Valley and kept
applying her talent in music at the Crestone Community choir singing and
of course
playing the harp. The desire to engage in daily life and the community
made her volunteer in many organizations such as Habitat
of Humanity, Alamosa Live Music Association, The Nature Conservancy, Archeological
Group, Youth Crane Fest, and The
Friends of the San Luis Valley National Wildlife Refuge, where she, as
recently as last year, was helping tear down wire fences
in the Baca Fish and Wildlife Refuge.
She will be missed.
Donations in her memory can be sent to the Crestone End-of-Life Project,
P.O. Box 1238, Crestone, CO 81131.
