Discovery Center
Overview:
Student s observe various pieces of wildlife art. Using symbols they give their opinion about three of the pieces. Then write a paragraph interpreting one piece they chose.

Time: 20 minutes

Location: Indoors

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Students will judge four pieces of artwork based on their own preferences.

Materials

  1. 10 or more works of Wildlife Art (numbered from 1-10 or more)
  2. Paper Opinion Tokens- heart, yuk,and house are worth 1000 words.

Preparation

  1. Set-up the artwork around your classroom. So students can sequentially move through the pieces.You may also choose to do a virtual wildlife tour on
    Wildlifeart.org.

Wildlife Art Gallery

  1. In front of you are four tokens (heart, yuk, house, worth 1000 words). Read the back of each token.
  2. Around the room are at least 10 works of wildlife art.
  3. Walk around the classroom carefully looking at each piece of art.
  4. Place your token by four pieces of art, based on your personal preferences.

Stories in Pictures

  1. After you have placed all four tokens, travel to where you placed the "Worth 1000 Words" token.
  2. Carefully look at this piece of art, again.
  3. Write AT LEAST a five sentence story describing what you think is happening in the artwork.
  4. Return all your tokens to the beginning of the walk when you are finished.
