Bird Sense
Field Study 3
Overview:
Students go on a scavenger hunt using the senses that birds have to find their food, water and shelter.

Time: 30-45 minutes

Location: Outdoors

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to correctly describe the sense of a bird compared to a human.

Materials:

  • None

Preparation

  1. Scout an a walking route with a variety of birds.

Ask. . .

  • For each sense ask if humans or birds are better at it.
    Sight- birds, Sound- same, Touch- Same, Taste/Smell- humans
    Explain. . .
  • That since both humans and birds experience things differently that we are going to describe how they each might experience different things in their environment. AS we walk along we will stop when we see a bird and put ourselves in their shoes, to experience the environment around us.

  • Go on your walk -experience the bird and human senses.
    Take the time to discuss what you experience as a group.
