The Great American Flyway
Overview: Students look at a flyway map trace the migratory pathway of various birds.

Time: 20 minutes

Location: Indoors

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to list their four characteristics of birds as compared to humans.
  2. Students will be able to list the habit requirements of a duck and a crane.

Materials

  1. Picture of human and bird
  2. Two ropes of equal size

Preparation

  1. In an open space, set up the ropes in the following configuration.


Oh Birdie!

You will need…

  1. 2 Ropes that are approximately 15 feet long.
  2. A picture of a bird and a human.
  3. Pencil and Paper.

Activity…

  1. Lay the ropes out into two circles on the floor like a venn diagram.
  2. Mark one ring birds, one humans and the center one both.
  3. Have the students look at pictures and decide how humans and birds are the same, and which ones a unique to each species.
  4. Have them write them down and place them into the correct space on the venn diagram.
