For the fifth consecutive year The Friends of the San Luis Valley National
Wildlife Refuges have conducted a kids'art contest in recognition of National
Wildlife Refuge Week. The Feathered Friends art contest is for San Luis
Valley students in grades K-12. The subject of the artwork is any native
North American bird species. 148 pieces of art work were submitted from
schools throughout the Valley. All of the artwork was displayed at the
Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge's Visitors Center. All contestants received
a ribbon for participating, prizes were given for first, second and third
place in each grade category. The Friends would especially like to thank
the judges of the contest, John Rawinski and mural artist, Frances Ruxton
Oster.
